Minecraft server RAM calculator.
How much RAM does your server need? Pick what you run and how many players you expect, and get an honest answer with the reasons why.
We recommend
4 GB RAM
How it works
Where the number comes from.
Server type
Vanilla starts around 2 GB, Paper and Fabric around 3 GB, and Forge or NeoForge modpacks around 4 GB before any mods load.
Plugins and mods
Each plugin or mod adds a little. Big modpacks with 200+ mods often need 10 GB or more on their own.
Players
Every player loads chunks around them. Above 10 players we add about 1 GB per 12 players (per 8 on modded servers).
World and extras
Exploring a lot means more loaded chunks, and Geyser for Bedrock players uses some memory too.
More RAM is not always faster: past what your server really needs, extra RAM does nothing. Lag usually comes from plugins, farms or view distance, see how to fix server lag. Want the full explanation? Read how much RAM a Minecraft server needs.
FAQ
RAM calculator FAQ
Is 4 GB enough for a Minecraft server?
For Vanilla or Paper with a few plugins and up to about 10–15 players, yes. Add plugins, players or mods and you will want 6 GB or more.
How much RAM does a modpack need?
Light packs run well on 6–8 GB. Big kitchen-sink packs like All the Mods usually need 10–12 GB, plus more for many players.
Can I add RAM later?
Yes. Upgrade your plan from the client area when your server grows, or add Extra RAM. Need more than 16 GB? Ask for a custom plan.
Is this calculator exact?
It is a good starting point based on typical servers. Every server is different, so watch your memory use in the panel during busy hours and adjust.
